Dren Maloku
B.A., J.D.
Dren’s practice focuses on child protection, criminal defence, regulatory and related civil litigation proceedings. Dren completed his articles at a local law firm in the Okanagan Valley, where he was exposed to many different areas of law including: family, wills and estates, real estate, and criminal defence. Dren was called to the British Columbia Bar in September 2021.
Prior to deciding to practice exclusively as a sole practitioner, Dren worked as an associate lawyer for a boutique law firm in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dren received his J.D. from Robson Hall at the University of Manitoba in 2019. While at law school Dren served as a junior editor with the Canadian Journal of Human Rights and as a research assistant under Professor Mary Shariff, assisting her with research on the topic of substitute decision-making authorities for non-competent adults in France.
Before attending law school Dren earned his B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of British Columbia (“UBC”). While at UBC, Dren served as the Co-President of the UBC Prelaw Society interned with the E.U. Agency for Fundamental Rights in Austria and volunteered with Sweettalk — a non-for-profit that aims at finding a cure for type-1 diabetes.
Dren is from Gjakovë, Kosovo, but grew up in Vancouver. Dren has always been involved in the community whether it be volunteering as a basketball coach with the Spence Neighbourhood Association for impoverished youth residing in the Treaty 1 Territory, or volunteering with the Canadian Mental Health Association. Dren also served a two-year term on the Board of Directors for Sovereign Lake Nordic Club — a not-for-profit nordic ski club in North Okanagan.
Dren prides himself in his ability to communicate with clients from all walks of life, without the need to resorting to legalese. Dren has effectively represented clients in out-of-court processes, including mediations, ADR meetings, Family Case Conferences, Judicial Case Conferences, and Family Management Conferences. In addition, he has consistently demonstrated fervent and principled advocacy in court, representing clients with diligence and integrity before both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Dren, as a dedicated legal professional, is deeply committed to guiding clients through some of the most challenging times in their lives, an approach that is augmented by his empathetic, professional, and trauma-informed approach to advocacy and the practice of law.
